Mason Jar & Rustic Pallet Light Fixture DIY

Who would've thought an old pallet, some mason jars and a little bit of extension cord could turn into a one-of-a-kind light fixture and a work of art - AND cost less than $50 to create?

There are variations of this fixture being sold at places like Pottery Barn for a couple hundred dollars.  And I don't know about you, but for us,
spending that kind of money on a light fixture was not an option.  So I talked my husband into getting out his tools and turn my vision into a reality.

First, we found a pallet, with wood that had some age, but was still in good shape (i.e. not dry and brittle).

Then simply construct a box - which will house (and hide) all the wires.

Once you put the ends on the box, you are ready to start drilling holes where you want the cords to come out.  We chose to do 5 mason jars, so we found the center of the box, drilled that hole first and then drilled evenly spaced out from there.

Then the fun part comes when you get to drill holes in the lids of the mason jars, thread the power cords through and attach the light socket.  After this step, it really feels like it's coming together!

Now, because my husband I are not electricians, we decided not to hard-wire this bad boy into the ceiling, because we weren't in the mood to burn our house down.  So we bought a converter from Home Depot that turns an existing ceiling socket (i.e. recessed can lighting) into an outlet.  But if you know how to hard-wire, more power to ya!

Next, attach all the bulbs and make sure everything works, before you anchor this into the ceiling.

Yay!  It works, now it's ready to hang on the ceiling and enjoy all your hard work!
